2005 Grade Bay Roan Mare
Blessing has been a special horse to our 3 girls and many other youth learning to ride and now it is time for her to bless another family. Many kids have had their first ride on Blessing. She has won more showmanship and horsemanship awards than we can remember. All 3 of our girls used her for showing in local 4-H and horse shows. Blessing taught them how to watch a cow and has been used extensively on the ranch. She’s the same in the spring as she is in the fall. Last year even though our 12 year old, Corinne, rode her minimally. she still won grand champion upper level 4-H horsemanship at the county fair. The girls use Blessing to carry flags in rodeos and we’ve lent her to others to do so.
The best of those we started under saddle in 2007, Blessing was smooth and easy without any argument. Unfortunately, she was injured late that summer. A severe fall put the top of her hip in her back out. Our 10 year old daughter, Tienna, took over the riding and finished training Blessing who continued her life being ridden pretty much exclusively by kids. Blessing will drag calves to the fire at branding willingly, but it hurts her and we do not do it. Through periodic chiropracting Blessing has done great with people under 125 pounds. Yes, we are careful with her because she means a lot to us. She is smooth and sweet and loves kids. She is sometimes impossible for an adult to catch in the pasture, but will allow her ‘kid’ to catch her. She is solidly built. About 15-2 hands. 4 black hard feet. She’s gone barefoot all her life, but is shod all the way around now for use in the Black Hills. Rides in a halter bareback. She has speed when you need it. She teaches kids how to bring in cows.
We would like to see Blessing go to a ranch family with young kids in 4-H. She is priced according to her value. We do not need to sell her. She has had one foal and that gelding is one of our go-to horses on the ranch who is also used as a kid’s horse – even as a young gelding himself.
