Do you yearn to go somewhere to just breathe?
Breath in fresh air, quiet peace, and nature at your own pace in your own style as guests on Mahlstedt Ranch. This is your opportunity to custom make your vacation. If you prefer to stay in a newly renovated historic ranch house and write a book, you can! If you want to watch or participate in the current farm/ranch activities, you may! Schedule a day of hiking, mountain biking, birding, shed hunting, training your bird dogs, or even bring your own horse to ride the hills exploring at leisure; you can do this.
Enjoy Our Location
We are at the foot of the Divide between the Missouri & Yellowstone drainages on the west side. Homesteaded in 1912, our family cattle and Quarter Horse operation features brush and creek bottoms and moderate badlands. We farm to raise feed for our livestock. Birds and wildlife also benefit from the grains. Out here, land is measured in sections (not acres). This is your chance to explore miles and miles of sections of land.
Be Peaceful and Remote
We are rather remote so you won’t see many people here, but you will see everything from curlews to hawks to Canadian geese to eagles to pheasant, curlew and kildeer to turkeys and hawks and more. Wildlife include deer, antelope, badger, coyote, fox, pocket gopher, and racoon. You haven’t seen a sunset or sunrise till you have witnessed one in eastern Montana. Our night skies are the biggest and brightest!
Stay in a secluded house at the base of the Divide – JORD’S HOUSE – available outside hunting season

During the winter months we are offering Jord’s House for monthly stays. Here is your chance to escape the world of busyness. Hide away for months to write a book, do research, conduct business away from it all!

Beauty and seclusion are all yours. A spectacular view with no other humans for miles. A perfect location for a family get-away. Plan your family holiday here and go hiking, biking, star gazing, cross country skiing. You will enjoy the rugged beauty while appreciating easier elevation changes than are experienced in the mountains on the western end of the state.
