Tana & Tienna were selected as part of a cohort of leaders, the Montana Agritourism Fellows more than 18 months ago, to educate farmers, ranchers, professionals, and communities about sustainable agritourism. The Fellows hosted the first MT Agritourism Conference on the campus of MSU Bozeman on Friday, May 3 and what a huge success it was!
Drawing more than 130 attendees, the event included a trade show and breakout sessions on topics including starting an agritourism business presented by Tana Canen & Carissa McNamara and Sustainability in Agritourism presented by Tienna Canen and Todd & Molly Barkley.
The Agritourism Fellows shared how and why they have incorporated agritourism elements into their businesses – ranging from real ranch stays to pumpkin patches to various types of tours.
“If we’re reaching one person at a time to make them ag-friendly, we are helping our industry stay alive so that we can keep doing what we do best,” said Tana Canen, a fifth-generation farmer and rancher in eastern Montana and member of the Fellows cohort. “It’s also economic because it’s tough surviving in agriculture. We are practicing resilient transformation.”
