July 2026 MRI Newletter

Life is busy and always changing for us. Here is the latest news and lots of it!

Happy Independence Day! It just amazes me that God placed us in the most amazing country in the world, that we can live so abundantly, and that we can celebrate however we want! Our family enjoyed local rodeos and time spent with family and friends on the 4th. I hope you had a fantastic weekend too.

Alexis entered her young mare, MRI Fireproof Percy, in her first rodeos this weekend & they did a fantastic job.

We are starting to haul the Camo (Can Man Fling) offspring along. They are easy going horses with natural talent that are purely enjoyable to work with.

Happenings & Updates:

Our last newsletter told of the severe drought our region was in. June was a completely different story! We are so thankful for the beautiful rains. The grass is green and the animals are thriving.

Our land is healthy and vibrant with wildflowers and baby wildlife…..

Our orphan filly, Buttermilk, and her nurse mare, Granny, are doing super well. Buttermilk comes when we call for scratches and loves. She is fun!

Branding at the end of May was the usual fun social event that brings friends and neighbors together to brand this year’s calves. The rain started after the work was completed – perfect timing to make for a perfectly green June!

Our dear dad & grampa, George, was in the hospital for 2 weeks the first half of June with pneumonia. He also celebrated his 83rd birthday while in the hospital. It is sure good to have him home and getting stronger.

If you have a youngster who would like to experience life on a ranch, give them the gift of our Ranch Kids Camp. August 4&5 will be the days youth 8-13 yrs of age can come adventure and learn with us about riding, animal chores, camping, & plants. Attendance is limited.

In the News:

We hosted an Agritourism information day on June 3rd at the ranch. Our neighbors, the Beleys, gave wagon rides. Part of our agritourism goal is to include our friends and neighbors in sharing the agriculture story.

In June, Alexis was interviewed & the ranch filmed for the film production, Powering Montana: Stories of Resilience, Community, and Sustaining Life on the Land We Love.

The Horses & Pasture Pick Pricing:

Foaling is completed and we have our largest offering ever. What a fantastic group! I get excited thinking about the potential as I look at each of them. We are still offering foals through our Pasture Pick Pricing (PPP) and that ends on July 31st. Through the month of August we will be preparing for halter breaking and our open house. Weanling sales will be on hold through August until our Open House on August 30th at the ranch. The only exceptions will be 3-in-1 sales and for those who schedule to come look at the foals. So far babies are going to homes in Montana, Wisconsin, Washington, and Mexico. With our largest group ever and all absolutely amazing, you can get your pick! Plus, we have fantastic older prospects available and sales on those will continue as usual. Never have we offered so many duns, buckskins, and palominos! The pastures look a bit different.

Unfortunately, Can Man Fling was injured in the pasture at the beginning of June so we will have only a couple of his foals to offer in 2027. Check the nice foals we have by him this year. They are so easy to start and really fun to ride.

We have been busy with Harvest Hosts guests. Many of them take our ranch tour and/or go for a trail ride on MRI horses. It is so fun to share our world with people from all over the country. You can plan to come see us for your vacation. We also offer a stay in our remote ranch house at a discounted rate to those who buy horses from us!

Seeking a full-time colt trainer

We are currently seeking a colt trainer to live and work on our ranch training our young horses. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified individual to develop skills and reputation while working with high-quality horses.

The ideal candidate would be someone who has ridden under a professional trainer and is looking to establish their own business by starting high-quality horses for a reputable breeder. A willingness to learn is appreciated. This position requires someone with colt starting experience. Do not apply if you haven’t started at least 12 colts.
